Management Zones
Create zones, subzones, certification and biology, the zone page
Overview
Management zones are the blueprint of your farm. Every lab report, field observation, recommendation and application is linked to a zone, so per zone you see what was measured, observed, advised and applied. Open them with Management Zones in the side menu.
Zones also matter in the mobile app: they let you bring up the right zone straight away when you’re in the field.
Where zones come from
You rarely have to draw zones from scratch. There are five ways in:
- Lab reports: when you upload a lab report, SoilBeat uses the zone named on the report, and creates it if it doesn’t exist yet.
- Shape files: import your field boundaries (see below).
- AgroVision: Dutch farmers can bring in their fields through the AgroVision integration.
- AI chat: click Upload with AI and AI chat creates the zones for you. It needs GEO coordinates; without them you get a list, not a map.
- By hand: click Add zone.
Using another farm management platform? Let us know through the chat in Support and we’ll look into an integration.
Import field boundaries
- Click Import zones at the top right.
- Upload your file: SHP, KML, KMZ or GeoJSON. One file can hold many fields.
- SoilBeat detects the boundaries automatically.
- Review and adjust them, then save.
No boundary file? Ask your agronomist, or export one from your GPS or mapping software.
Add a zone by hand
- Click Add zone.
- Choose the type: crops or nursery trees. Picked the wrong one? You can change it at any time.
- Draw the zone on the map, or search an address or latitude and longitude to find the spot.
- Save the zone.
Zones within zones
A zone can have subzones, and those can have subzones again, as many levels as you need.
- Click the arrow next to a zone to open its subzones.
- Use the Add subzone icon in the row to add one.
Certification, biology and farming approach
Each zone can have a certification, a soil biology score and a regenerative approach. Fill them in: fertiliser recommendations take them into account.
To update many zones at once:
- Tick the zones you want to change.
- Click Add certification, Add crops or Change dates.
- Fill in the value and confirm.
The zone page
Click a zone’s name to open it.
- Details: crops, dates, area, soil type, biology score, regenerative approach and certifications. Click Edit zone to complete or change them.
- Crops per year: add crops with Add crop. The timeline shows the crops for each year; use the arrows to go back or forward in time. On the zones list, pick a year to see that season.
- All data on this zone: the Activities, Measurements and Field Scout tabs. Click Create Fieldscout to record an observation right here.
Work in this zone
Click Work in this zone at the top right of the zone page. All data in the farm’s workspace is then filtered to this zone and its subzones: lab reports, observations, recommendations and activities. You can do the same by selecting a zone on the dashboard.
